Week 2 Blog Assignments

1. Did You Know
This film should be a wake up call to most in numerous ways. It shows that technology is taking over our lives. There is such a high rate of unemployment due to the fact that modern technology are doing the jobs that humans used to do. It connects to the fact that the United States has low birth rates, and it's simply because citizens cannot afford babies. Citizens are steadily losing their jobs due to technology. I believe that most people should major in technology because computers are dominating other occupations.
It's scary to realize that a computer will be invented to be smarter than a human. I cannot digest that fact to well. I fear that if we do not stop putting so much faith in computers, and wanting to improve technology so much then we will have a computer running as president over the United States, The U.S. is behind in technology, but I don't think that it's a bad thing. At least we are not totally depending upon technology in our daily routine.

2. Mr. Winkle
Mr. Winkle is an old man who does not want CHANGE! He doesn't want to improve technology. He is set to tradition in his classroom and is not open to learning new things. I do feel as if computers play an important role in the classroom. Teachers do their daily attendance by their computer in their room. Smart boards are now available in most classrooms which is helpful to visual learning students.
Many students are capable of going home and searching for extra work to help them in a particular subject that they are weak in. There are also online instructors to help students with problems if the student is away from school. Computers are very effective in the schools.

3. Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
I loved this film. It taught me the importance of helping students to use their creativity instead of ignoring their talents. Educators are so quick to tell a student that they are wrong. The students eventually develop a fear of failure which causes them not to express themselves. That also leads to students becoming followers instead of leaders.
There are also many educators who focus more on having a quiet classroom without any interruptions while a lesson is and after it has been taught. I feel that it is very important to allow a student to express what they have learned and for them to elaborate on it. It is also important to help students who may be a "disturbance" in the classroom to fine a passion in anything that interests them.

4. Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students Digital Smarts
This film was great! It helped me to realize that students do not need to depend on their instructor for everything. The students from the movie did not only learn to do fun things on the computer, they learnt to be INDEPENDENT! The teacher forces the students to learn in independently and also in a group. The students have the opportunity to teach themselves. It's great when a teacher and a student can learn at the same time.
Media classes are just as important at the basic "R's" within the school. The world is changing minute by minute, and it's up to the instructors to help inform the students of the importance of learning new technology.

  2. Technology is is made to make our lives easier and better. It's also made not to make us work harder, but to make us work smarter. There is a very fine line between the two. I think Dr. Strange gave us the key on how to handle the advancements with technology. We are to use it effectively meaning we should use it for what it is given to us for. I also hope that this class makes us appreciate technology more.
